Speech & Language Evaluations
A speech and language assessment utilizes a variety of standardized and nonstandardized measures to best evaulate communication strengths and weaknesses.
Standardized assessments include a selection of speech and language evaluation tools that will compare your child's skills to those of typically developing peers. These are instruments such as articulation or phonology tests, vocabulary tests, test of grammar and syntax, and pragmatic (social) skills. Non-standardized tools may include observations of your child, speech and language samples, parent interviews, review of previous reports, and classroom information.
We use a variety of tools to best meet the needs of your child. We are aware that children often present differently in a clinical setting as opposed to the comfort of their home. We will take time to help your child feel at ease, so that we are able to gain the best information possible from the assessment. Sometimes, the evaluation requires more than one session to complete, depending on the child.
